Microsoft is expected to release a consumer preview version of its latest desktop operating system Windows 10 in January 2015.

Once released , the extent of the new features will become clear. Some of the key new features expected are :

  • Return of the Start Menu, will look like the Windows 7 menu.
  • Personal assistant similar to Apples Siri called Cortana.
  • New Touch interface.
  • Multi-touch support.
  • Virtual Desktops , meaning you cam swap between multiple desktops , rather than just having the one.
  • Revamped task bar , intended to make multitasking better.

Why did they call it Windows 10 not Windows 9 ?

No you didn’t miss a version.

According to Microsoft, Windows 10 was so much of change from Windows 8 that they decided to skip Windows 9 and go straight to Windows 10.
