Email Security – Antivirus and Antispam

Email spam has become a significant issue for businesses. Not only is it a nuisance to users and administrators it also poses a real security threat as spam mail often links to malicious content that the unsuspecting user may click on and can potentially comprise the entire IT environment.

There are different methods for tackling these issues, both on premises and hosted.

P2P Computer Services have been successful in reducing spam email to acceptable levels for companies that were struggling to do so using traditional Antivirus / Antispam systems. This was done by moving them to a hosted Antispam solution.
Hosted Anti-spam is the most accurate method for detecting and blocking spam mail.

We are familiar with all the Hosted Antispam vendors however our preference is to deploy Symantec Message Labs Email Security Cloud (Formerly Message Labs).

We have found that traditional Antispam, running on your email server or by your email provider will not be able to match the capability of a Hosted Antispam solution.

How does it work?

  1. We set-up your mail records so all your email is sent through the Antispam provider.
  2. The Symantec Message Labs Email Security Cloud will filter your email, both inbound and outbound blocking any spam and / or Malware that may be present and then forward the email to your email server.
  3. We lock down your email server so it will only receive email from the Antispam provider so there is no way for spammers to bypass it.
  4. Of course no Antispam solution is can block spam with 100% accuracy however we have found these services to be as accurate as currently possible, with very few false positives.
